I took a tour of the iconic Sydney Opera House!
An architectural spectacle designed originally by architect Jørn Utzon it was the mark of a new era for Sydney and began construction in the late 1950's. Throughout the project, Utzon faced much pressure from the government, eventually leaving the project (voluntarily, but after being harassed by the newly elected government officials). Utzon would never return to Australia again and thus would never see his masterpiece in its completion.
Despite the heart-breaking history of the opera house, the construction is amazing. The building is made to shift with the changes in weather as the glass and steel expand and contract with the temperature change. As I was mind-boggled by the miracle of architecture, it was interrupted as we walked into the main concert hall. I don't know what I thought the concert hall would look like, but it was amazing. The only word that I can think of to describe it is "grand". Unfortunately, I was unable to snap any pictures, but it was unlike any other concert hall that I had ever sat in. I can only imagine what a concert or event in that room would sound like.
