Koalas are one of Australia's most iconic animals and I will always jump at any chance to see them!

These marsupials have a pouch where they carry their babies for the first 6-7 months. This lets the baby drink milk and develop before becoming more independent. Koalas are arboreal animals, meaning they spend most of their day in trees. During the day, they sleep for about 18-20 hours! Then, in the late evenings, they wake up and move from tree to tree. According to the zookeeper, koalas sleep all day because they only eat eucalyptus, which isn't very nutrient rich. All energy they gain from eating goes right back to finding and eating and the small amount of movement they do.
